Family-owned. ASE-certified. Parts and labor warrantied on every repair. Big or small, we tow them all, anywhere in West Michigan, any hour of the night.
The Cost of a Wrong Choice
A chain shop tells you the brakes are "shot," the alignment is "way off," and the cabin filter is "filthy." You get the keys back and a bill 60% higher than the estimate.
You're on US-131 with two kids in the back seat. The 1-800 number puts you on hold. Three transfers later, you're told it'll be 90 minutes and a flat $385.
The starter they replaced fails again. The warranty covers the part. You pay the labor. Twice. That's not a warranty. That's a head start on the next bill.
You should not have to gamble with the car your family rides in. Honest, certified, local mechanics still exist. We're 1831 142nd Ave.
Who We Are
We understand. You don't want to think about your car. You want it to start, stop, and get you to work. When something goes wrong, you want a straight answer from someone who isn't paid commission to oversell you.
That has been the entire job at Dorr Standard Service since 1962. We pay our technicians a salary. We use parts we'd put in our own trucks. We give you the diagnosis in plain English, an honest estimate before we start, and a parts and labor warranty when we hand back the keys. The shop has stayed in one family because the work has stayed honest.

What We Fix
From a $40 oil change to a transmission rebuild, our ASE-certified techs handle it on-site, with parts and labor warrantied for 12 months or 12,000 miles.
Engine diagnostics, mufflers, starters, alternators, batteries, and the unglamorous fixes that keep your car on the road another decade.
Stranded at 2 a.m.? We answer. Light-duty to heavy-duty, anywhere in West Michigan. Big or small, we tow them all.
Pads, rotors, lines, fluid. We catch the problem before it becomes the accident on US-131.
An $80 alignment can save you a $600 set of tires. We measure, adjust, and prove it on paper.
New tires, rotation, balancing, and patch work. Honest recommendations from techs who don't work on commission.
Conventional, synthetic blend, full synthetic. Done in under 30 minutes with a 27-point inspection at no extra charge.
If your AC blows warm in July, we find the leak, fix the compressor, and recharge it right the first time.
Free battery testing. If it's dying, we replace it that day with a parts and labor warranty.
Lockouts, jump starts, fuel delivery, tire changes. Real people, local trucks, fast response.

24-Hour Towing & Roadside
Stranded on US-131 at midnight? Locked out at the trailhead? Dead battery in your driveway? A real person from Dorr answers the phone. Average response time inside 15 miles: 25 minutes.
What Neighbors Say
"My alternator died on 142nd Ave at 6 a.m. on a Tuesday. I called Dorr Standard expecting a voicemail. A real person picked up, towed me, and had me back on the road by 11. I have not gone anywhere else for three years."
"I am a 67-year-old woman and I will not pretend I know what is wrong with my car. They explained it to me without making me feel stupid, showed me the old part, and charged me exactly what they quoted. That is rare."
"We blew a tire on US-131 with two kids in the back seat. The tow truck got there in 22 minutes. They put us in the waiting room with snacks for the kids and had us moving again in under two hours."
"I had three quotes for the same brake job. Dorr Standard was not the cheapest, but they were the only ones who showed me the worn rotors before pulling them. I trust them with my daughter's car now."
How It Works
One number, day or night. (616) 681-9136. A real person from Dorr picks up, not a call center.
We diagnose, walk you through what's wrong, and quote it in writing before any wrench turns.
Repair done right the first time, parts and labor warrantied 12 months / 12,000 miles. No surprise bills.
About Dorr Standard
Dorr Standard Service opened on 142nd Ave more than 60 years ago, when Dorr was a fraction of its current size and most of our customers paid in cash at the counter. The building is paid off. The equipment is owned outright. There's no franchise fee, no corporate quota, and no service writer working on commission.
What that adds up to is a shop that can tell you the truth. Sometimes the truth is "you don't need that service yet, come back in a year." Sometimes it's "your transmission is on its last legs, here's the realistic cost." Either way, you walk out with the information you need, and the bill matches the estimate. That's why your parents brought their cars here, and probably your grandparents too.
